   It was in 1991 on a motorcycle trip accross the country when I had my first encounter with the hanky code.  It wasn't until much later that I heard of it's origins. It is a system widely used by gay males to advertise what their interests are, or what they are looking for. You wear a colored hanky in your back pocket. The color and placement of the hanky signifies your interest.
